The Story Of Mani The Prophet

Mani's father had migrated to Babylon and lived in Tisophon and went to a temple that apparently belonged to the sect of al-Sabeion astrologers. According to Ibn Nadim, one day he heard a voice saying, "Fatiq, don't eat meat, don't drink wine, and beware of marriage." He heard this call three times in three days. After that, when his wife was pregnant, he joined the Baptist sect of Al-Khasaiyah. In this sect, meat was not eaten and other religious rituals were carefully performed: circumcision, monotheism, rejection of prophecy and astrology. Fire was considered an evil tool in the ancient world, and water was the center of sanctification.
