World War II (often abbreviated to WWII or WW2), also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. The vast majority of the world’s countries—including all the great powers—eventually formed two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis.

The history of photography began in remote antiquity with the discovery of two critical principles: camera obscura image projection and the observation that some substances are visibly altered by exposure to light. There are no artifacts or descriptions that indicate any attempt to capture images with light sensitive materials prior to the 18th century.

Frequently compared to New York’s Broadway and Paris’s Champs-Élysées, Lalehzar, Tehran’s historic entertainment district, and its vicinity (which I collectively dub Tulip Grove, Tehran), was surrounded by the Iranian parliament as well as a multitude of government offices, foreign embassies, diplomatic ventures, and missionary schools, along with a number of chapels, mosques, and synagogues.
