Princess Soraya of Iran was Queen of Iran, the second wife of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, and a notable actress.,Soraya and Bijan Esfandiari Bakhtiari were the children of Khalil Khan Esfandiari-Bakhtiari, and Eva Karl of Germany. Soraya was born in Isfahan on June 22nd, 1932 and Bijan was born 5 years later on 15th of October 1937 also in Isfahan.

It appears that the decision to send children to different European countries to study were for political reasons.
