Zarutska's 21-year-old fiancé, Stanislav Stas Nikolitsia, has publicly expressed his grief and anger over the horrific crime. On Wednesday, he posted a photo of himself and Zarutska in swimsuits by a lake on Instagram, accompanied by a broken heart emoji. He also included a mushroom emoji, which Zarutska is said to have liked, in his bio, alongside the broken heart emoji. Zarutska's obituary referred to Nikolitsia as her "life partner" and noted that they had been living together for the past year.
