This statistical study shows that the risk of moving from normal cognitive function to “mild cognitive impairment” or “severe cognitive impairment” increases by 8 to 9 percent for every 10 percent increase in a person’s loneliness score. This means that loneliness can act as a direct trigger, accelerating the process of memory decline.
