How household chores can help you lose weight

Cook your own meals

Taking care of the cooking yourself is one of the best ways to lose weight. Not only preparing your own food promotes healthier eating habits, but it is also an excellent way to burn a few more calories. The activities involved in cooking, such as reaching, stretching, stirring and, perhaps fretting can work up a sweat. Also, try to put away the mixer and do everything by hand instead. This way, you can burn some 150 calories per hour while cooking. Moreover, home-eaters tend to consume more fruits and vegetables than those who eat out more. In fact, one study, published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, found that people who eat at least five home-cooked meals per week are 24 per cent less likely to have excess body fat than those who opt for less than three home cooked meals per week. They are also 28 per cent less likely to be categorised as overweight on the Body Mass Index (BMI).
