We’re talking, of course, about his turn as Hunter S. Thompson (or his alter ego, at least) in Terry Gilliam’s adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Sweaty, balding, cigarette-obsessed and fashionably challenged, this was new, “ugly” territory for the actor who looked like an angel when we first glimpsed him in Platoon.
