our perception of history has a decidedly Eurocentric slant and out of all the continents, Africa is perhaps the most sorely neglected (with the possible exception of Australia/Oceania). But it is a bit disappointing, especially since, there's plenty of interesting stories to tell about Africa that don't involve pharaohs or pyramids.
